About the author

Lijin Lakshmanan

Lijin Lakshmanan is a multifaceted individual whose life experiences as an educator, artist, fashion designer, and social activist have deeply shaped his powerful and thought provoking storytelling. Born in 1988 in the modest village of Pattiam Kottayodi in Kerala, Lijin faced severe adversities from an early age, including poverty, childhood sexual abuse, unrelenting bullying, and the political unrest that
resulted from his courageous opposition to the corrupt political and law enforcement systems in his home state.
Faced with financial hardships and familial obligations, Lijin was compelled to abandon formal education after completing his 12th grade. Nevertheless, he remained undaunted, working tirelessly to support his family, managing the daily responsibilities of raising cattle and poultry. His outspoken resistance to social injustices, however, made him a target. He was subjected to continuous harassment by the local Communist Party (CPIM), with the tacit support of the police, and even struggled to maintain his position as an assistant professor in Kerala—his career was constantly under threat due to his bold stance against the establishment.
Lijin’s early years were profoundly shaped by trauma, which led him to withdraw into seclusion. He spent the majority of his time confined to his room, unable to confront the world beyond. Endlessly bullied, society labelled him as a “mental patient” due to his enforced silence and emotional withdrawal. In the midst of this painful isolation, he found solace only in the company of plants and animals, forming quiet, unspoken connections with them as he sought refuge from the relentless harshness of life.

Choosing to distance himself from human interaction and the clamour of the outside world, Lijin sought peace in solitude. His days were spent guiding his cattle to graze and tending to the farm, where the serenity of nature provided him with a much-
needed sense of comfort. During these tranquil moments, he turned to books, quietly dedicating himself to self improvement. Though acutely aware of the limitations imposed by his impoverished circumstances, he never burdened his parents with his struggles, instead opting to endure in silence and focus on his personal
development.

Despite the numerous challenges he faced, Lijin displayed remarkable resilience, ultimately earning a BA in English Language and Literature through distance education from the University of Calicut, followed by an MA from the same institution. His determination and tireless work ethic enabled him to clear the UGC NET and pursue a B.Ed. in English. In addition to his academic achievements, Lijin is a highly skilled artist, having undergone four years of intensive training in drawing and oil painting. While working part-time as a helper in his brother-in-law’s shop, he also completed a Graduate Diploma in Fashion Designing from the renowned Vogue Institute of Fashion Technology, affiliated with Bengaluru University.

Currently, Lijin serves as Assistant Professor of English. Driven by a strong sense of justice, he is also pursuing an LLB to challenge societal injustices and advocate for those marginalized by oppressive forces. Additionally, he is working on his second novel, set to be published in early
2025. Lijin’s debut novel, Upto The Valley And Beyond, the first instalment in a powerful trilogy, draws deeply from his personal experiences and provides profound insights into the complexities of society. Through its narrative, he masterfully weaves themes
of emotion, struggle, and transformation, offering readers a glimpse into the nuances of human nature and the societal forces that shape our lives. The novel explores issues of identity, love, poverty, and the pursuit of truth and justice, while providing a thought-provoking commentary on pressing social issues. Passionate about social service and advocating for children—particularly those silenced by sexual and emotional abuse—Lijin uses his writing and activism to inspire change and give a voice to the voiceless.

A pivotal element of the story is his relationship with Tharuni, a girl from a well-off Brahmin family who has been his childhood sweetheart. Tharuni’s life, marked by her physical disability, is entwined with Ijas’s journey, and her family’s well-to-do status provides a stark contrast to his own impoverished background.

In a moment of desperation, while at a final camp in Wayanad, Ijas flees the camp and returns to his hometown, where he kills Tharuni, believing her life will be wasted waiting for him. In a burst of rage and resentment, he also murders his father, who had betrayed his family by marrying a second time. In his last moments, as he faces death, he closes his eyes, feeling as though he is once again lying on his mother’s lap, embracing the calmness of a final, peaceful sleep.

About the 2nd book

The Z-approach:

A Dynamic Theory of Life, Mind and the Universe

The Z-Approach is a revolutionary exploration of how we experience life, growth, and transformation—not as a linear journey or a neat cycle, but as a zigzagging path of discovery. Challenging the conventional frameworks of progress and spirituality, this book introduces a powerful new model of understanding personal evolution through the lens of a Z-shaped motion—symbolizing movement, resistance, reflection, and rebirth.
At the heart of The Z-Approach is the belief that growth doesn’t occur in predictable steps or tidy stages. Instead, it follows an energetic rhythm that winds its way through paradoxes, plateaus, and breakthroughs. Drawing from a diverse tapestry of sources—ancient philosophies, quantum science, psychological insights, and the author’s own experiences—the book decodes the invisible geometry that shapes our lives and consciousness. It invites readers to embrace uncertainty, confront resistance, and recognize the sacred in the seemingly chaotic pivots of life.
More than a philosophy, The Z-Approach offers a practical guide to navigating emotional upheavals, shifting identities, and spiritual awakenings. Whether you’re standing at a crossroads, feeling lost in transition, or seeking deeper meaning in the midst of chaos, this book equips you with a new compass—one that honors disruption as divine and recognizes stillness as transformational.
With poetic depth and philosophical clarity, the book shows that every twist in life’s path holds wisdom, and every pause is a purposeful preparation for what’s to come. The Z-Approach is an invitation to break free from the straight lines of expectation and the binary walls of thought—and instead, to ride the spiral of realignment, where healing, purpose, and flow emerge naturally.
If you’ve ever felt caught between what was and what’s next, this book will resonate deeply. It doesn’t just explain the zigzag—it helps you live it.
